Corruption City limps along

The city formerly known as “Jersey City” continued to live up to its new name as “The Home of Corruption” this week. LaVerne Washington Webb admitted in court that she was corrupt. Phillip Kenny did the same – but with an important difference.

First, Kenny was not in the July sweep that netted the Dirty Thirty. Second, he has only been in office for six months – at which time he was appointed by Mayor Jerramiah Healy. As if we needed any more proof that the Mayor is up to his eyeballs in corruption (because being on the FBI’s tape isn’t enough).

Now, Mayor Healy is appointing a replacement for his corrupt appointed replacement. His pick is David Donnelly, who got his start in politics working for corrupt political boss Robert Janiszewski. From Janiszewski to Healy…what a resume.

I’ve heard a few people making a big deal out of Donnelly’s mother, Mary Donnelly, who was a Ward B City Councilperson before Mary Spinello, who was picked by Healy as a running mate before he picked Phillip Kenny to replace her. Personally, I don’t care for such pedigree arguments. I don’t really care what someone’s parents did so much as I care what they have done. The younger Donnelly’s associations don’t speak well for him.
